Orange Park is situated on the banks of the St. Johns River north off Interstate I-295. The rather simple description, Orange Park, really encompasses hundreds of communities stretching from the Westside of Jacksonville all the way south the the towns of Green Cove Springs and Keystone Heights. Many Orange Park residents are there for the enjoyment of the water, and there’s water all around. Not only 20-plus miles of St. Johns River coastline, but numerous lakes and creeks that make for great fishing, skiing, and just plain pleasure boating. It’s not surprising that many residents of Orange Park choose to live directly on the water, and many neighborhoods, like Doctor’s Inlet, abutting Doctor’s Lake, nicely fill the bill. Some of the most popular neighborhoods are due west, across the three mile Buckman Bridge/I-295 causeway from Mandarin. There are family oriented, planned developments such as Oakleaf Plantation and Argyle Forest, and The Country Club of Orange park, with one of the nicer public courses in town. Oakleaf Plantation has its own Town Center with shops, restaurants and boutiques convenient to all the homes in Oakleaf and Argyle. Where Orange Park meets the Westside of town, there’s the Jacksonville Naval Air Station, or "NAS Jax". More than 20,000 civilian and active-duty personnel are employed on the base. The Orange Park Mall and its surrounding area is the central gathering place for shopping dining and entertainment. At the southernmost end of Orange Park is Eagle Harbor and Fleming Island Plantation, two upscale master planned communities designed for families. Overall, home buyers will find prices lower on the west side of the river in Orange Park, perhaps due to the distance from downtown and the beaches. That makes prices in Orange Park reasonable, and you can get a lot of home for a lower price. First time home buyers can easily put down roots in a single family Orange Park home for $150K or under. Condos, such as those at The Preserve at Oakleaf and The Cottages at Argyle make for an even more affordable selection.
